Our ‘bulk’ metallic pearl pigment comes in a quart container. One unit is intended for 3 gallons of epoxy. Some of the containers vary in the amount of metallic pigment due to metallic pigments weighing different amounts. Metallic pigment powders may be used in epoxy (we suggest our Epoxy Flow 100 Slow Set) or used in other clear coatings such as polyurethane, acrylic sealers, and waterborne epoxies, all with different effects. Our “house brand” metallic epoxy pigments are highly refined metallic powders that are used by contractors and DIY installers of metallic floors all over the U.S. with fantastic results.

The colors represented above are to serve as a guide only. Variations may occur due to a wide range of variables in the concrete surface, including but not limited to, the quality and degree of workmanship, curing conditions, prior glues, sealers, and contaminates. The colors displayed are accurate to laboratory samples. If exactness of color is critical, it is recommended that a job site test/mock-up is performed. Always test.  Please utilize proper surface prep procedures.

How to Use Metallic Pearl Pigment:

Surface Preparation:

To begin with, surface preparation does depend on the condition of the flooring. However, customers should do general surface profiling using a floor grinding machine, such as a diamond grinder. Customers can find more information on this product in our catalog. In addition, if chemicals or cleaners are used, the floor must be left to dry completely before applying a basecoat.

Apply Primer/Basecoat:

An opaque pigmented primer or basecoat is your first step. It is important to note that the color of the basecoat will influence the overall appearance of the floor. For example, white or light basecoats will create a lighter final appearance than a black or darker basecoat.

Apply Metallic Coating to Floor:

When the primer coat is dry it is time to apply the metallic pigmented coat. First, you must use a sanding screen on the entire surface for adhesion purposes. When this is complete, mix the clear 100% solids epoxy with the metallic pearl pigment. This mixture will follow a 1 container of bulk metallic pigment color (16 oz)  to 3 gallons of epoxy ratio. Epoxy Flow 100, is one of the top choices for this mixture.

Then, apply the mixed product a notched/serrated epoxy squeegee to ensure the floor is evenly coated. Then, backroll over the surface with a lint-free roller to ensure coverage is totally even.

Finally, apply the mixture in figure-eight motions. As a result, a natural stone or rock formation design other metallic effects. Finally, leave the product to completely dry before walking on it.

In conclusion, you will find this metallic pearl pigment to be an asset to your flooring needs. It comes in 20 different reflective colors, so the options are endless. Customers will find this product easy to use with fun results that are certain to please.
