- Diamond Pads FAQ's
Concrete DNA™ Diamond Satellite Pads are professional grade diamond impregnated pads. Additionally, this product is functional when used dry or wet(most run lower grits wet). The diamond pads are available in 14″, 16″, 17″, 20″ and 27″ diameters and a range from 30-1500 grits. These pads will open the surface of flat concrete and hone the surface to properly accept a densifier/hardener and continue to hone and polish to 1500 grit.
These diamond-impregnated concrete polishing pads are unique because they have a diamond resin material blown onto both sides of the pads. They also have diamond dots, known as satellites. The satellites allow for a superior flat cut that no other pad can do. Many customers find that on new concrete floors all they need to get a professional polish job is to use our pads. This can save you big money on large grinders. In fact, our level 2 concrete polish system, was designed to mimic the owner of concrete floor supply’s experience while consulting with Wal-mart and Sam’s club. On new floors, they use an 800, densify, 1500, all wet. They then buff with our 3000 grit(Concrete DNA™ Double Sided Diamond Pads).
Which Grit is Best for Your Diamond Polishing Pads?
Just prepping? Grits 30-50 are ideal for quick preparations for thin mil, low solids coatings and sealers.
Our 50 Grit will take care of scratches from grinding, and will transition you into polishing.
Old floor? Try the 100 grit.
Looking for a ‘honing pad,’ or a pad to get your floors in decent shape for polishing? 200 grit is for you.
Need to polish a floor that has been power troweled? Looking to revitalize a severely worn polished concrete floor? Go with 400 grit.
Want an eye-popping polish? How about a diamond polishing pad that will work with an auto scrubber to deep clean a hard troweled floor? The 800 grit is a great option, especially when paired with a “special soap” for polishing concrete.
1500 grit is the final polishing step. This pad, unlike the other options, should be used dry. The diamond pads are great for dry burnishing polished concrete. It is also good for periodically cleaning a polished concrete floor.
Most importantly, this pad can be flipped over and used for cleaning or burnishing. There are diamonds on BOTH sides!
These pads are not intended to be used on rough or broom finished concrete.
Question: How long do the pads last?
Answer:There is no ‘exact’ sqft number that you can say each pad will last as it depends on many factors mainly; profile of the concrete (smooth finish, rough old floor, etc), what grit was used to start the floor (your first grit will consume the quickest), and if they hit objects (these are woven pads (bolts and nails can tear them). The short answer is that pads will last 1000 to 4000 sqft. Lower grits such as 30 will consume the quickest. Your upper grits like 1500 will last the longest given subsequent grits have already smoothed out the floor.
Question: Should the pads be ran wet or dry?
Answer: These pads are most often ran wet…meaning on a fully wet floor with lots of water (not damp). There are times when doing some buffing that you might run a 1500 grit dry on a propane burnisher, but most all the time these pads are ran wet.
Question: How fast should these pads be ran and on what kind of machine?
Answer: These pads should be ran at lower rpm. So, what kinds of machines can run these diamond pads?….The pads can be ran on low speed buffers (most typical)note: low speed buffers run around 175 rpm and don’t have a center lock, propane burnisher (ran on idle or slightly above), and auto scrubbers.
Question: Can these pads be ran on outside concrete?
Answer: If you run these pads on outside concrete (typically broom finished) you will significantly shorten the life of the pad due to the roughness of the concrete. We typically don’t recommend using them outside for these reason, but if you have a project that you need to smooth out the concrete a little just understand that they will have a shortened life.
Question: Is the diamond abrasive just in the ‘satellites’ (dots)?
Answer: There is not only diamond abrasive in the satellites there is diamond abrasive throughout the entire pad.
Question: Can you polish an acid stained concrete floor?
Answer: Polishing and acid staining are two separate systems. You will remove part of the stain by the time you are done polishing. Acid stain floors should be sealed with a UV stable clear sealer.
Question: Can you skip grits when polishing with Diamond satellite pads?
Answer: If you plan to start at a 50 grit satellite pad and work to a 1500 grit satellite pad you can’t skip grits. If you skip grits, you will not refine the floor and it will give you a lesser result. Not performing full refinement from one progressively finer grit to the next, it will not produce the best possible results. You should never go higher than double the last pads grit (ie 50-100-200-400-800-1500)

penetrates and dissolves lime deposits, mortar, scale, rust algae, stains and mineral sediments. Super Blue is the safe substitute for muriatic acid. Dilute 1’4 for basic cleaning. Full Strength for prep.
Super Blue is the safe replacement for muriatic acid to clean concrete, tile, brick and even glass and aluminum
frames to remove lime, scale, excess mortar, algae and stains prior to sealing or staining concrete.
- Apply Super Blue by brush, spray or dipping. For spray use a very coarse spray pattern to avoid inhaling the mist and causing over spray.
- Allow it to soak for several minutes. Agitate heavy soil or stains with a stiff broom, then rinse thoroughly with water.
- Repeat application may be required on some stains.
Super Blue may be applied by brush, dip or spray. (When spraying, use as coarse a pattern as
possible to avoid inhalation of mist). Allow to soak for several minutes, agitate heavy soil or
stains with stiff broom then rinse thoroughly with water. Repeat application may be necessary
if heavy accumulation is present.
Note: Some types of stainless steel, chrome plating, porcelain on steel and polished
decorative aluminum may be discolored. Test before using. Do not use magnesium or zinc
(galvanized). Plastic or polyethylene sprayers and buckets are recommended for application.
